People start to exercise for all different kinds of reasons. Life after pregnancy, a wedding coming up, pure vanity, health. It doesn't matter what your reason is, a catalyst for a healthier life is a good catalyst no matter what. My catalyst: Marcie.
It's no mystery that people would like to feel good, feel healthy, feel energetic. I do not. I don't know why. Doctors don't know why and I just can't keep living feeling this way. I understand that my body may not work and feel like a "normal" person's, but that shouldn't keep me from doing the best I can with what I've got.
This is where the Process of Progress begins. I am not under any impression that I will ever be running side by side with my husband at the NYC Marathon. For all you out there who say,
"Come on! Dream Big!" I say my goals are personal, are realistic and are the finish lines for me.
I will not set out lofty goals like "I will lose 10 pounds in 2 months". " I will run a 1/2 marathon in 4 months". These are personal, realistic goals for some, but not for me.
My goals:
Know my body, understand it's limitations, but not let them limit me.
Establish healthier eating habits.
Maintain a weekly exercise schedule.
Don't do it alone.
Let other people become part of the process to hold me accountable to my goals.
Let other people inspire and encourage me.
This is where the "Marcie Moxie" comes in. When you join a gym, an exercise class or a running group you are less likely to give up because other people are holding you responsible. You don't want to be that person who gives up, starts to fall behind, so you push yourself and reach goals you never knew you could. When I set out my goals before, they were not reached because I let myself down. I could talk myself out of it. I would give up.
So, here I am. My goals, my health and my heart all out there ready for the challenge. Open mind, bright smile. All I need are some cheerleaders and coaches who won't let me give up on myself. I will focus on healthy eating, exercising regurally and not letting myself give up on my goal.
This is a process. A journey. A healthy life. Not a deadline or a destination.

Go Lauren! I´d love to be your cheerleader! I´ll be your #1 follower from Iceland :-)
ReplyDeleteLook forward to reading your blog and I´ll do my best to comment and encourage you!
Hey Lauren! I will be a cheerleader for you too! I have plenty of time on my hands and you and me both have to GET MOVING! I walked an hour around the reservoir Friday but only because a friend dragged me out of the house. I just don't have the confidence to go by myself! So a friend is what we all need! Use a journal too! That helps. Go Lauren and you'll feel your best soon! Aunt Jo
ReplyDeleteWOOO HOOOO!!! GO LAUREN GO LAUREN! MOVE THOSE AGIUS THIGHS!! Some right out of the gate tips and tricks I have. Hang a calendar someone where you'll see it every day and write down any exercise you do on it. Unachievable goal being to work out every day (even if it's just 5 sit ups) But when you see this calendar every day and see 2 or 3 days go by with no writing on it, it DOES make you feel horrible and encourage you to do SOMETHING. (and yes, I have one in my room...and wrote on it 7 times last month..pathetic)
ReplyDeleteTip 2 rather than "diet" and eliminate everything scrumptious try to eat well during the week and take the weekend to cheat. It keeps you motivated, like hmmm I would looove that gluten free cookie but if I wait for the weekend I can have as many as I want...and usually come the weekend you don't really want it anymore anyways.
That's all I got for now. GO LAUREN GO LAUREN GO! (ps i went on a 3 hour hike yesterday...what did YOU do??) :)
You kick ass, Lauren.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! :)
